Princess Celestia was inspired by Majesty, a G1 unicorn. Celestia's name comes from the word "celestial", derived from Latin "caelum," meaning "sky" or "heaven". Lauren Faust commented that Princess Celestia was originally supposed to be Queen Celestia, the highest authority, with no parents who outrank her. In addition to her responsibility of raising the sun, she has also been the teacher of Twilight Sparkle and Sunset Shimmer at different periods in time, often addressing Twilight as "my faithful student" while mentoring her. After becoming Nightmare Star, Celestia has no will and is unable to control her actions and in the possessed state, Nightmare Star uses her magic to remove all the horns and wings from the ponies and Discord's chaos magic and proceeds to overthrow the land and waits for the other nightmares to help in causing misery among the land.Horn Princess Celestia is an Alicorn pony, the co-ruler of Equestria alongside her younger sister Princess Luna, and the adoptive aunt of Princess Cadence.

In a series of flashbacks, we see Celestia attending the harmony festival, attempting to console Cadance, consoling Twilight and the nightmare pursuing Celestia. Not long after leaving the room, the nightmare approaches her and manipulates her into accepting it's proposition and becomes Nightmare Star. The two have a discussion about the Nightmare and it ends with Celestia, expressing her annoyance with Luna and decides to get some air. Later that evening, Celestia visits Luna and the two start reminiscing about the past, especially on Luna becoming Nightmare Moon. After the Nightmare visits and threatens Luna, Celestia cancels the party early and the next morning Flurry approaches her on what the nightmare is, however two ponies start whispering gaining both of the Alicorns attention. She welcomes them by arranging a party and later is seen attending, while at the party she tries to start a conversation with Cadance but is blown off. While she alongside Luna and Galaxy wait for Cadance and her guest, Discord arrives by teleportation and within a few minutes Cadance and her guest: her daughter Flurry Heart enters the throne room. She would later entrust the Elements of Harmony to Galaxy and tasked her with protecting them. Princess Celestia is introduced informing Twilight of Princess Cadance's visit and that they need to make preparations, however she learns of the Nightmare's return and advices Twilight to visit Zillia and asks Galaxy to accompany her. Immortality: An alicorn ability that Celestia and any other alicorn possesses.Cloud-walking: An ability that all winged creatures are capable of, Celestia is able to walk, run, sit and lie down on clouds.Flight: Like all Alicorns, Celestia is able and capable of flight and unlike the pegasi, Celestia's wings are larger and differently shaped.Sun/Moon Control: During her sister's imprisonment on the moon, Celestia used her magic to manipulate both the sun and moon to bring day and night.Magic Beam Emission: Celestia has the capability to blast a number of magic rays from her horn at will.Telekinesis: When moving an item using her magic, Celestia's horn glows with the same color that the object is encased in.Magic: Naturally, Celestia knows and can perform a number of powerful spells.Alicorn Physiology: Every Alicorn, including Celestia has a pair of pegasus wings for flight and a unicorn's horn for casting magic.Years later Celestia would learn of Shining Armor and the Mane 5's deaths each happening within thirty years of each other. She would adopt Cadance as her niece, grant her the title of princess and transforms her into an Alicorn, she would also grant Twilight the title of princess and turn her into an Alicorn. She would later use the Elements of Harmony against Discord turning him to stone and regretfully against her sister as Nightmare Moon imprisoning her on the moon. Prior to becoming co-ruler of Equestria, Celestia was born as an Alicorn and would earn her cutie mark by taking the responsibilities of raising and lowering the sun. Throughout Remembrance she would frequently apologize to both Cadance and Twilight over the sad realities of immortality, and constantly blames herself for unintentionally causing it. Being an Alicorn her wings are differently shaped but like her unicorn horn are superior in size, on her flank is her cutie mark which resembles a sun.Ĭharacterized as a patient, caring, wise and remorseful, Celestia has shown to be a very apologetic and is a very responsible character. She wears a diamond-shaped gem positioned in the center of her golden crown and golden necklace, on her hooves are golden hoof-like shoes/slippers. A white coated tall winged unicorn that towers over the the majority of the Remembrance cast, her multi-colored mane and tail has a continuous flowing motion whenever it'll be walking or standing still.
